WSP is currently initiating a search for a Resident Engineer / Construction Manager for our Washington DC office.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Maintains daily contact with client about upcoming assignments and projects
  • Supervise field inspection staff, directing and assigning specific tasks
  • Ability to prepare clear technical, financial, administrative and explanatory correspondences
  • Ability to interpret roadway and bridge plans, building plans, specifications, special provisions, and contracts
  • Recognizes construction problems and applies standard techniques and procedures to solve the problem
  • Keeps detailed records of contractor’s performance and progress
  • Ability to work as a team member without close supervision
  • Reviews and approves daily inspection reports, oversees material testing and project documentation
  • Attends construction meetings with client and contractors
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree, specializing in Civil Engineering or Construction Management
  • Professional Engineer license in Washington DC or ability to get reciprocity within 3 months
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in the management of roadway and/or infrastructure construction inspection projects
  • Considerable knowledge of general roadway, structure, tunneling, traffic engineering, utilities construction methods, procedures, practices, plans, specifications and contracts, materials used and performance, environmental, legal and safety responsibilities related to construction of transportation facilities
  • Strong writing skills to support technical reporting as well as oral communication skills are required, and proficiency with MS Office including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of the use of electronic data processing equipment and contract management software
  • Successful candidates must have the ability to work both independently and within a team environment with the capability to delegate and supervise tasks to support staff
  • OSHA 10 Hour Construction Safety Training
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Must successfully complete and pass WSP's Motor Vehicle screening.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
Preferred Qualifications
  • Registered as a Certified Construction Manager (CCM) through the Construction Management Association of American (CMAA) or similar Construction Manager Certifications
  • OSHA 30 Hour Construction Safety Training
  • Can demonstrate experience in similar roles/responsibilities on complex major transportation infrastructure programs/projects
