WSP is currently initiating a search for a  Senior Consultant, Mechanical Engineer for our Lorton, VA office.

The Senior Consultant, Mechanical Engineer will serve as a ‘subject matter expert’ in support of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency’s (DTRA) program for Cooperative Threat Reduction.  This is an Advice & Assistance service contract; the candidate’s responsibilities will consist of, but not be limited to providing their expertise in conjunction with the agency’s mission to fund the design and construction of diagnostic and reference laboratories located abroad.  
 
Currently, the team is not traveling due to Covid 19 concerns. When safe, there will be up to 20% overseas travel to perform existing facility assessments, punch-list reviews and technical compliance walk downs for new and renovated facilities. At this time (at least through the end of 2020), the office is working remotely for the foreseeable future, until travel is deemed safe.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Technical evaluation of contractor proposals
  • Evaluate and Quantify existing mechanical systems in the laboratory environment
  • On-board document reviews of plans and specifications for design intent and code compliance
  • Develop post travel trip reports
  • Work with mechanical/electrical engineer in evaluating commissioning plans

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university
  • 5 -7 years’ previous design experience working within the A/E or construction environment specializing in HVAC/air distribution systems,
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, Power Point and AutoCAD and/or Revit MEP
  • General knowledge of all aspects of HVAC systems and negative airflow
  • United States citizenship is a requirement
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • PE license
  • Knowledge of applicable and International Building Code (IBC)
