Job Duties

The VDOT Staunton Districtâs Structure and Bridge - Maintenance Program is seeking a Senior Structural/Bridge Engineer. The position is a key technical role in both conventional and alternative delivery of bridge maintenance and repair projects. Experience should include the supervision and execution of the preparation of design calculations and engineer estimates, overseeing the preparation of contract proposals, and assignments of varying complexity and scope.

ï‚· Oversee contract administration for a bridge maintenance and repair program. Apply standard practices and techniques of structural engineering to scope work and create engineer estimates for unit price and lump-sum contracts. Package notes and details, specifications and special provisions, supporting documents, and permit applications for proposals. Administer change orders and task orders as needed.
ï‚· Review plans for VDOT State Force small bridge repair/replacement designs consisting of precast/pre-stressed slabs, beams, and substructure elements.
ï‚· Design small bridge elements for repair/rehabilitation, to include bearings and joint seals.
ï‚· Provide oversight and engineer support to contractors and construction personnel.
ï‚· Lead, manage, and mentor engineering and technical staff.
ï‚· Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

ï‚· BS Civil/Structural Engineering (BSCE) or closely related field
ï‚· VA Licensed Professional Engineer (PE)
ï‚· Adept with Excel and MS Office Software
ï‚· Excellent written/oral communication skills
ï‚· Strong interpersonal skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
ï‚· Is autonomous with attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
ï‚· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team
ï‚· Valid driverâs license

Preferred Qualifications:

ï‚· Experience with deficiencies in bridges, bridge elements, preventive maintenance techniques, and protective systems to resist fatigue and corrosion
ï‚· MS Civil/Structural Engineering (MSCE)
ï‚· Project Management Professional (PMP)
ï‚· Engineer Estimating Experience
ï‚· Proficiency in AASHTOWare Project Preconstruction
ï‚· Experience with VDOT project management processes
