GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Estimator assists the Director of Preconstruction in development of cost estimates. The Senior Estimator will have broad experience and a thorough understanding of heavy civil construction estimating with a strong knowledge in Agtek and Bid to Win Estimating program processes for large scale construction projects. The Senior Estimator will be a self-starter and overseeing major estimates with little supervision. Must be able to meet critical deadlines, have the ability to lead and mentor others as well as to work as part of a team.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct initial analysis of drawings and specifications to ensure required documentation is present.
  • Develop full-scope estimates based on construction documents
  • Critically analyze the bid documents and understand risk and opportunities and articulate those to management
  • Organize the bid team, providing leadership and direction with regards to means and methods, schedule and strategy
  • Gather and monitor actual cost vs. estimated cost, maintaining project cost history
  • Provide detailed quantity take off of specific trades when required
  • Create detailed crew and production cost estimates and review prices with Executives
  • Review the progress of existing projects to ensure their completion within the parameters of the established project budget

  • Ability to accurately obtain quantities for structural components

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree – Engineering, Construction Management or similar technical training preferred
  • 10 to 15 years of estimating and/or field experience
  • Knowledge and efficiency in the following Software: Microsoft Office, Bid to Win, Primavera P6 or similar scheduling software, AutoCAD 3D, Agtek or similar Takeoff Software
  • Prior field experience preferred
  • USAC experience highly preferred

WORKING ENVIRONMENT & CONDITIONS

  • This position requires working in the internal and external environment.
  • This position requires working remotely. The majority of duties are performed while sitting at a desk.
  • Communication typically occurs through face-to-face interaction, as well as via e-mail, telephone and written correspondence. This job also requires the ability to use other office equipment such as copier, fax machine, etc.
  • Occasionally travel to meetings to the office and at other company office sites and client locations.
  • Constantly work in a team environment, effectively and efficiently achieving goals, improving processes and resolving problems.
  • This position requires a flexible work schedule; night and/or weekends may be required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Prepare budgets, handle business logistics and ensure employees are being suitably supervised.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Ability to multitask in various areas and be able to communicate well.
  • Organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of different computer programs or at least the ability to learn new software.
  • Communication, verbal and written.
  • Judgment is also an important skill to have, not only for handling situations but also for making decisions across many departments.
  • Federal / Government experience is required.

PHYSICAL & MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Requires considerable concentration and focus. It is subject to stress caused by a changing environment, diversity in the organization, tight deadlines and workload.

  • Normal memory, taking into consideration the amount and type of information.
  • Normal complexity of decision making.
