Parsons is looking for a Senior Spacecraft Operations Director to lead the integration and automated operations of space and ground segment operations. Candidate should have a balanced combination of technical space vehicle bus, payload mission and ground operations knowledge and be able to recruit, mentor and lead a team managing all aspects of spacecraft operations focused on automated operations. Must demonstrate a history of space vehicle expertise and leadership of systems support and integration over the mission life cycle of both space and ground segments. Minimal 15 years of operational experience and knowledge in spacecraft launch and early orbit, space-to-ground communications, ground and space system anomaly identification and resolution, daily maintenance, and end of life planning operations a must.

MAJOR FUNCTION: Lead a spacecraft operations team responsible for the systems support and integration over the entire mission life cycle providing daily direction for all spacecraft activities from prelaunch spacecraft integration, training, and rehearsals, launch and early orbit, mission execution, anomaly identification and recovery, end-of-life and spacecraft and ground system performance optimization and automation in coordination with the development and sustainment teams supporting one or more spacecraft types and constellations.

Responsibilities - Essential Functions

Director, Spacecraft Operations

  • Direct an operations team responsible for performing mission planning, scheduling, system automation, real-time spacecraft contacts, configuring command and control ground equipment during pre-pass, pass and post-pass periods in accordance with mission requirements for one or more spacecraft types/constellations.
  • Ability to perform duties assigned to the operations team
  • Identify upgrades and fixes for the spacecraft ground control system and coordinate the needed software and hardware updates with the development and sustainment teams in order to meet mission requirements
  • Support space and ground system readiness, planning, preparation, execution, and evaluation
  • Support operations to include satellite launch and early orbit operations, on-orbit operations, and end-of-life
  • Perform payload mission, scheduling, data trending and analysis, real-time operations, and spacecraft anomaly identification and resolution
  • Responsible for operational procedures, automation, technical data, test plans, test reports, training materials, and daily reports as required
  • Support and coordinate with Parsons leadership and mission partners in the daily coordination of the mission to include anomaly resolution, system conflicts and daily status as required
  • Responsible for scheduling and supporting ground system sustainment and system upgrades

Required Skills/Abilities - Competencies

  • Ability to lead and motivate a technical operations team with a bias for action and improvement
  • Understanding of the Program Managements and Systems Engineering development lifecycle and change management process, operations concept development, System and product design, requirements management, technical risk management, interface definition and control
  • Experience with orbital operations and mission management
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work with and communicate with all levels of management and individual contributors on the program team
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including presentation skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite of tools
  • Experience with Ground equipment/RF equipment
  • Experience in integration, and/or verification and validation
  • Experience with complex satellite ground systems, particularly previous deployment of developed systems to ground station operations
  • Experience working in an Agile or DevOps development environment, being part of a highly integrated team working closely with the spacecraft, software, hardware, integration and development

Required Education and Experience

  • No degree and 15+ year related technical experience
  • Associates and 10+ years, or
  • Bachelor's and 5+ years
  • CompTIA Security+ certification or ability to get certification

The anticipated annualized full time target compensation (median) for this position is: $135,000.00.
