WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Structural Estimator for our Sacramento, CA office.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
 
  • Develop conceptual cost estimates from preliminary planning documents, price alternatives and options, and offer opinions of probable cost for different phasing scenarios that may be discussed.
  • Actively reconcile the internal estimates with those prepared by third-parties; engage the third-party entities in an informative, collaborative reconciliation; and communicate the results of their conciliation effort.
  • Proactively establish a routine reporting cycle that clearly communicates when an estimate changes and why.
  • Prepares and reviews material take offs from planning documents or engineering drawings.
  • Prepares detailed breakdown of components and elements of estimates for systems and subsystems.
  • Prepares estimates by applying unit rates for man hours, labor dollars, material dollars, and construction equipment dollars and all-in unit cost determination, calculating extensions and the application of standard factors, overhead rates and fees. Accumulates, evaluates and documents historical cost data for the development of future estimates.
  • Provides coordination and liaison with project management and project engineering personnel throughout the estimate development.
  • Prepare estimates at different levels of completion (conceptual, Schematic, DD, etc.)
  • Provide on-the-job training to junior staff
  • Lead the preparation of the Basis of Estimates (BOE) to reflect the requirements of the program
  • Review designs and specifications for cost-effectiveness and suggest cost-saving alternatives
  • Review Contractors Change Orders and Claims, and provide detailed counter estimates

Requirements

<div>Talent is the essence of meeting our client’s objectives, goals and challenges.  If this sounds like a fit for you, we’d love to have that first discussion of you joining our team.</div> <div> </div> <div>Minimum Qualifications:</div> <div> <ul> <li>Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Construction Management, and/or other relevant discipline or experience.</li> <li>At least ten years of progressively-increasing responsibility in estimating within Heavy Civil/Transit projects with primary emphasis on rail systems, including track, power, communications, SCADA and other control systems, and fire detection and suppression,</li> <li>Experience with railroad/transit project estimating, including quantity take-off preparation, setting formats for others to follow, labor pricing using crew base and man-hours estimating methodology, conceptual to detailed estimating, and securing quotes</li> <li>Skills with Excel, Timberline, Primavera, HCSS Heavy Bid and Risk Management tools</li> <li>Experience leading bid estimates on large multi-million dollar projects exceeding 200 million dollars (500 million preferred).</li> <li>Advanced computers skills with MS Office</li> <li>Extensive knowledge of construction costs and engineering principles</li> <li>Familiarity of all aspects of horizontal and infrastructure projects</li> </ul> </div> <div> </div> <div>About WSP USA</div> <div> </div> <div>WSP USA is the U.S. operating company of one of the world's leading engineering and professional services firms.
