WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Supervising Traffic Engineer based in our Orange office to develop and manage a group of traffic and transportation professionals. This is an exciting opportunity to bring your expertise in traffic and team management together.
Building on our success, it is our intention to grow our traffic practice. This individual will actively contribute to the overall success of transportation infrastructure projects in the region. This position affords an individual the opportunity to work with a strong team of planners and engineers locally and nationally, and to establish new markets as our company’s expertise expands.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Manage traffic projects and/or traffic tasks on transportation and infrastructure projects in a collaborative setting with multiple disciplines
  • Actively engage in marketing/business development activities to grow traffic services
  • Lead traffic studies and operational analyses of intersections, corridors, interchanges, freeways, and ramps
  • Design traffic elements (Traffic Signal, Signing and Striping, ITS and Lighting Plans)
  • Interpret, organize, execute and coordinate engineering assignments involving unique or controversial problems which significantly affect major projects
  • Manage staff on a day-to-day basis, ensuring staff are working on the appropriate projects and providing high quality work for key clients
  • Mentor staff in terms of career development and personal goals
  • Perform regular reviews of staff goals and objectives
  • Serve as primary contact for all traffic and ITS activities conducted in the Orange, LA, and Inland Empire areas, and coordinate closely with the West Region Traffic TEC Manager and local office Area Managers
  • Coordinate with other disciplines, offices and stakeholders
  • Represent respective projects at meetings and conferences
  • Make recommendations on project staffing

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field from an accredited program
  • Fifteen (15) years of relevant experience in traffic engineering or related field
  • California PE registration, or ability to receive within 6 months
  • A core understanding of the role of traffic engineering principles and practices in the broader development and delivery of major urban transportation and infrastructure projects
  • Strong technical writing, analytical and communications skills and ability to work within a team environment
  • Excellent research and problem-solving skills
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, MicroStation, Synchro/SimTraffic, VISSIM, and/or other traffic engineering software
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master of Science in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field from an accredited program
  • California TE or PTOE registration
  • Experience working with public agencies in southern California
  • Knowledge and understanding of AASHTO Highway Design Guide, California MUTCD, Greenbook / APWA standards, and other related standards.
  • Experience on projects with Caltrans and/or FHWA oversight
  • Experience in mentoring and managing junior staff
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures 
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
