WSP USA is currently seeking a Senior Traffic ITS/Signals Engineer in our Charlotte, North Carolina office to join our thriving Regional Traffic Engineering practice! The successful candidate will have experience in both public and private traffic ITS/Signals engineering projects. Specifically:
  • ITS design experience with design-build delivery of ATMS, ITS, and toll facility projects.
  • Experience in the design and operations of traffic signals, traffic signal optimization, and signal systems.
  • Experience in the design and operation of IP based networks including network logic diagrams, protocols, and wireline and wireless communications.
  • Experience in preparing ITS design plans, traffic signal designs and signal system designs. 
  • Ability to oversee and direct project traffic/ITS engineering project tasks and monitor project progress for technical accuracy.
  • Design of various traffic signal and ITS projects using survey data or other design information; develop drawings of traffic signal installations, pavement markings, signage, and ITS; produce engineers estimate for project probable cost; and utilize MicroStation V8i as the main design program.
  • Ability to work well with other related disciplines and coordinate design activities for timely completion and within resource budgets.
  • Willing to work in a team-oriented environment.
  • Working knowledge of NCDOT Design Standards, NCDOT Standard Specifications, NCDOT Traffic Signal and ITS Design Manual, and the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
  • Perform field reviews and investigation of the project sites, CCTV site surveys, signal inventories, and coordination with local and State highway agencies in obtaining as-built information.
Other tasks may include wireline and wireless communications design and shop drawing reviews. Candidate must be capable of applying diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices, and independently making decisions on significant engineering problems or methods. Excellent communications skills highly desired for public and client presentations and document preparation.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A BS in Civil or Electrical Engineering
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in both public and private traffic ITS/Signals projects
  • Experienced in Microstation V8i or latest
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
Preferred Qualifications:
  • International Municipal Signals Association – Traffic Signal Field Technician - Level II
  • Current North Carolina P.E. registration or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Masters in Civil or Electrical Engineering is preferred.
  • Training or certification in IP Network.
  • Current experience with NCDOT projects
