Platform DevOps Engineer (Multiple Openings)

Job Location: Colorado Springs, Colorado, United States

Braxton Science and Technology Group (BSTG), a division of Parsons company, has multiple, immediate full-time openings for Software Engineers on its Platform Engineering Team. In this role, you will help continue the expansion of satellite ground system software to cloud infrastructure and application deployments. You will help architect and build systems containing government-off-the-shelf, commercial, and open-source software. We're looking for people with the ability or who can develop the ability to distill existing software dependencies, map them into modern architectures, and explain that mapping to engineers outside the platform team.

This position will focus on DevSecOps deployment automation for Platform Services. The Software Engineer will assist in building, securing, and operating multi-tenant runtime environments deployed across multiple infrastructure configurations. This includes AWS GovCloud, VSphere, and OpenStack, including on-premises configurations. The Platform Engineer Team collaborates closely with Cyber Security Engineering, Network Engineering, the Integration and Deployment teams, as well as the Engineering Teams running tenant applications, to maintain a secure and available environment for all customer missions.

Job Responsibilities - Essential Functions:

  • Using enterprise automation tools (such as Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, etc.) to deploy and maintain complex environments like IaC (Infrastructure as code) and PaC (Platform as code). Automate configuration and monitoring of labs and production systems in physical, virtual, and cloud environments;

  • Deploying and supporting various environments within AWS, Azure, or GCP.

  • Employing the latest technologies to support CI/CD in virtualized and/or cloud environments: Integrate commercial or open-source tools that improve the operability of satellite ground software and infrastructure. Deployment and support of common on-prem infrastructure orchestration technologies targeting infrastructures based on OpenStack, vSphere or similar;

  • Develop tooling that streamlines development and QA experiences;

  • Assist in day-to-day system administration tasks to keep infrastructure running smoothly.

Required Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of software engineering, systems engineering, or site reliability engineering;

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science/Engineering or other relevant Engineering field from an accredited university or equivalent combination of formal education and experience;

  • Must be a US Citizen with eligibility to meet requirements associated with obtaining a DoD Secret clearance. Existing DoD Secret or Top Secret security clearance preferred, but not required.

Desired Skills/Abilities:

  • Experience administering and troubleshooting Linux hosts and networks (load, LVM, RPMs, scripting, DNS, routing, firewalls)Red Hat experience preferred;

  • Experience automating configurations with Ansible, Salt, Puppet, AWX/Tower, or similar;

  • Experience with virtualization and cloud platforms such as OpenStack, AWS, VMware, Docker, or Kubernetes;

  • Proficient with distributed SCM systems (e.g., git).

Preferred, but Not Required:

  • Local or willing to relocate to Colorado Springs, CO area.

  • Developing software using a modern programming language (Python, Java, C++, C#, etc.);

  • Monitoring systems and aggregating logs: Elasticsearch, Logstash, Beats, Sensu, LibreNMS;

  • Automating cloud topology deployment, configuration, and operation using Terraform, Ansible, Docker, Bash, PowerShell, etc.;

  • Experience with common container orchestration technologies - Kubernetes, OpenShift, Rancher, GKS, AWS EKS, etc.

  • Experience building CI/CD pipelines in GitLab, Jenkins, etc.;

  • SQL and NoSQL databases and key-value stores such as Redis;

  • Modern application design (statelessness, separation of responsibilities, message queues, REST, RPC);

  • LDAP, especially within FreeIPA/Red Hat IDM;

  • PKI concepts and implementation. #CJ

The anticipated annualized full time target compensation (median) for this position is: $170,000.00.
