Sr Union Benefits Specialist Team Lead

JOB SUMMARY 

This position will be responsible for being the SME on all Union Benefits functions. The Team Lead will be responsible for accurately and timely processing Union Benefits Funding, Setting and creating all Union Benefits upon request, understanding the Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA) and the CBA Summaries reporting, and processing will be done for each Union. Will be the main contact for the Labor Relations Directors for various requests, such as Union Audits, working with HRIS on Deduction set ups and various projects as needed.

Essential Responsibilities:
Must be customer service oriented when dealing with various contacts at the Locals and the Union Members.

Train all new Union Team Members.

Be the SME for all Union matters.

Must be able to review and understand the Collective Bargaining Agreements as they are updated by both Labor Relations Directors.

Must understand the monthly funding process of all benefits such as Health & Welfare, Pension, 401(k), Training, Annuity, Dues and PAC deductions and the calculation routines.

Must ensure all new Union Members have the correct Union Deductions set up timely to ensure there is no delay in the funding process.

Prepares monthly funding reports using Excel/Pivot Tables.

Must be able to prepare the Yearly Funding Budget report to the Finance Department.

Must be able to update Union Rates monthly to ensure all rates are set up accurately and timely.

Attend monthly conference calls with the Directors of Labor Relations for Union updates, changes and any upcoming transitions.

Prepares basic check requests for funding.

Works with Accounting on any outstanding checks not cashed by the Locals.

Works with HRIS on reviewing any new Union Deduction set ups to ensure the calculation routines are correct.

Performs PeopleSoft project testing as it pertains to Union activities.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Main point of contact for all Locals with any questions or concerns.

Ensure all Year End updates are done such as 401K/Roth limits are updated, new funding folders are ordered for the new year, etc.

Will work closely with the Tax/Union Benefits Manager on various updates etc. as needed.


Supervisory Responsibilities:
No direct or formal supervisory responsibilities in this position. Will provide informal assistance such as technical guidance and or training to the Union Team Members. Coordinate and distribute various tasks to team members as necessary.

Education and Experience: 

High School diploma (Associates degree preferred) with a minimum of five years of related experience.



Certificates and/or Licenses:
None.


Communication Skills:
Ability to understand and interpret instructions, short correspondence, emails and ask clarifying questions to ensure understanding of the needs.


Ability to provide routine reports and upon request.  


Ability to respond to common Union inquiries or concerns from clients, team members and or Managers. 


Ability to provide present information to internal departments and/or large groups of employees.



Financial Knowledge:
Basic knowledge of financial terms and principles. 


Ability to calculate simple mathematical and percentages calculations.


Must understand calculation routines.

Must have basic math and understanding skills.

Must have Excel skills to create Pivot Tables.


PeopleSoft knowledge and how to navigate through the system.


High Customer Service skills is a must.


Must be able to multi-task on various projects at one time.



Reasoning Ability:
Ability to problem solve in various situations and requires analytical skills.


Other Skills Abilities:
Proficient in Microsoft Office and PeopleSoft system knowledge preferred.


Scope
Decisions made with general understanding of procedures and company policies to achieve set results and meet deadlines. 


Research funding errors and make accurate adjustments through Payroll for processing.
