WSP USA is seeking a highly energetic, self-motivated, and goal oriented Structural Engineer II for Transportation Facilities Group in the New York office.  With the intimacy of a small group of staff, along with the support of a large firm, this is an excellent and unique opportunity for the right candidate to challenge themselves and to grow their career.
The Transportation Facilities Group (TFG) leads and design projects that supports local and regional growth initiatives through small and large transportation projects.  Our goal is to team with our agency clients and to develop solutions to the complex challenge of advancing transportation throughout the region.   TFG has over 60 engineers and architects throughout the Northeast Region, with major design hubs located in New York City, Boston, St Louis and San Francisco. 
The position offers varied projects in the transportation field within the NY Metro Region.  The Structural Engineer II position will work under the supervision of a senior structural engineer and includes designs in rail and bus stations, pre-k thru higher education projects, airports, transportation hubs, rail systems, as well a wide array of projects that lead and support the engineering divisions.   Clients include NYCT, MTA Bus, LIRR, MNR, PANY&NJ, Amtrak, NYC SCA, contractors, and local utilities.  The scale of work varies from small to very large projects and offers the candidate the ability to continually switch between multiple project types on any given day, and offers tremendous exposure to varied disciplines within the New York Office.
Responsibilities include:

  • Development of structural design, details and drawings, including calculations for new and renovation work;
  • Capable of developing drawings in REVIT (BIM), , AutoCad,  Aecosim (BIM), and Microstation;
  • Knowledgeable in structural software such as STAADPro, RAM Steel, and SAP (or equivalent);
  • Field inspection of structural systems of buildings;
  • Coordination with various engineering disciplines as well as with architects;
Typical projects types include:

  • Transportation segments include rail, bus, airports and marine ports; Facility building types include administration buildings, tolling structures, parking structures, bus and rail stations including associated maintenance facilities, ancillary buildings, vent buildings, etc.;
  • Pre-K through higher education school buildings;
  • Resiliency related studies and design;
  • Parks and recreation centers.
Growth Opportunities include:

WSP is looking for candidates with excellent oral and written communication skills that have the ability handle simple to complex projects across varied disciplines. 


<div><strong>Minimum Requirements:</strong></div> <div><strong><br /></strong></div> <div class="O0"> <ul> <li>Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with a focus on structural engineering</li> <li>Master of Science in Civil Engineering with a focus on structural engineering</li> <li>3 to 5 years of experience in transportation related projects</li> <li>Engineer in Training (EIT) is required; Professional Engineer (PE) license (or planning to take the exam)</li> <li>Knowledgeable in state and city building codes as well as ASCE7</li> <li>Understanding of construction documents</li> <li>Knowledgeable in STAADPro, SAP, RAM Steel or similar structural design softwar</li> <li>Proficiency of AutoCAD; knowledgeable in Microstation is a plu</li> <li>REVIT (or the ability to quickly learn)</li> <li>AecoSIM (or the ability to quickly learn)</li> <li>Excellent communication and writing skills and well organized</li> <li>Self-starter, able to work independently and able to multi-task</li> </ul> </div> <div> </div> <div><strong>Preferred Qualifications:</strong></div> <div><strong><br /></strong></div> <div> <ul> <li>Experience within the transportation industry is also a plus</li> <li>Detailed experience related in building design and rehabilitation with construction exposure a plus </li> <li>NY/NJ/Connecticut area resident preferred</li> </ul> </div> <div> </div> <div><strong>About WSP USA</strong></div> <div> </div> <div>WSP USA is the U.S. operating company of one of the world's leading engineering and professional services firms.
