WSP is currently initiating a search for a Supervising Bridge Engineer located in the Seattle, Washington area. 
This is a leadership position within a successful and established engineering team engaged in the design of public infrastructure.  Qualified individuals will participate in leading a team to secure and deliver structural engineering work for transportation projects.  The successful candidate will lead day-to-day technical work in the Washington area Bridge/Structures Technical Excellence Center (TEC).

Job Summary:
Act as a staff specialist in the application of theory, concepts, and principles in the area of bridges and structures.  Capable of analyzing technical aspects of the subject area, defining the scope and selecting problems for investigation, developing concepts and approaches, and making recommendations. Must be capable of managing a team of engineers, and demonstrate creativity, foresight and mature engineering judgement.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate with district structures management team
  • Assist in the management, growth, and development of the structures team in Washington
  • Plan, organize and supervise engineering activities on bridge projects
  • Function as a project manager and support others manage projects that have major structures
  • Represent projects and the firm at meetings and conferences
  • Make recommendations on project staffing
  • Assist with technical concepts in proposal development, preliminary design phases, and presentations to client
  • Assure that engineering services are commensurate with professional standards, client requirements, budget control scheduling, cost engineering/control, quality control and project objectives
  • Provide innovative solutions related to the design of bridges, transit structures, and other significant structures required for state highways, county roads, and city streets
  • Solve project problems in a team environment, particularly where project issues and challenges are significantly affected by the proposed structural solutions
  • Develop and maintain relationships with owners, contractors, and sub-consultants
  • Maintain and continue to develop the firm's reputation for technical excellence in bridge engineering.


Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 12 years of relevant structural design experience with an emphasis on bridges.
  • Prefer MS in Civil engineering with bridge-focused background
  • Current PE registration (SE preferred)
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Involvement in industry and/or professional organizations related to structural engineering.
  • Energetic team attitude and ability to lead and mentor staff
  • Working knowledge of other technical disciplines, such as track, highway, drainage, geotechnical, and hydraulics, associated with the design and construction of public infrastructure.
  • Working knowledge of environmental regulations and permitting requirements.
  • Experience with construction, particularly in environmentally sensitive and constrained areas.
  • Experience managing engineering activities on structure-centered transportation projects
  • Business development knowledge on structure-centered transportation projects
  • Extensive knowledge of seismic modeling, assessment, and design of bridge structures
