WSP is currently initiating a search for a Supervising Structural Engineer for our Lansing, MI office.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
 
  • Directs a segment of a major project, and participates in the development and application of concepts and techniques
  • Project management
  • The incumbent has full technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing and coordinating engineering assignments involving unique or controversial problems which significantly affect major projects
  • Mentoring, training, and developing junior staff
  • May plan, organize and supervise engineering activities for a  major project, two or more projects of significant size and complexity or several projects of moderate size and complexity
  • Represents respective projects at meetings and conferences
  • Shows understanding of team management, develops project scope of work, estimating labor needs, prepare CPM schedules, and tracks project progress
  • Coordinates activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, and labor and staffing, resolving engineering design problems
  • Business development
  • Develop and present proposals to clients
  • And other duties as assigned

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:
 
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience on structural engineering focused on the transportation industry
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil/Structural Engineering
  • Michigan Professional Engineer license or the ability to become licensed in Michigan through comity or reciprocity within 6 months
  • Knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Specifications
  • Understanding of MDOT design standards, policies, and procedures
  • Strong knowledge of structural design and transportation industry software
  • Capability of performing as a task lead on major projects with minimal supervision
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures 
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies 
 
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration or Structural Engineering
  • Successful completion of NHI 130110 course
  • Successful completion of NHI 130078 course
  • Strong knowledge of Microstation
  • Strong knowledge of AASHTOWare Bridge Rating software
