WSP is currently initiating a search for a Traffic Intern.  This role will be based in Lawrenceville, NJ providing our clients with services in traffic engineering and traffic operations.  The candidate could also be expected to work on projects that cover transportation planning, operations, design and road safety.
Specifically, this person will be involved in:
  • Transportation engineering/planning/design and road safety with department of transportation agencies and other potential clients.
  • Preparing analyses, designs, presentations and reports as required.
  • Undertaking traffic engineering and transportation planning projects: Traffic studies, multi-modal planning, Traffic impact studies, Transportation modeling, Traffic management plans, Signal optimization plans
  • Undertaking road safety projects: Road Safety Audits (RSA), Crash analysis, Highway Safety Manual analysis, Transportation Safety Planning/Management
  • Undertaking transportation design projects: Traffic design (signals, pavement markings, signing, work zones) and ITS design (fiber networks, cameras, data collection devices)
  • Developing and strengthening existing skills and delivery transportation projects in accordance with client requirements and in line with company and industry best practice.
  • Understanding of agency processes and policies as they relate to transportation engineering.


<div>Minimum Qualifications:</div> <ul> <li>Working toward possession of a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, with an emphasis on transportation (or posession of said degree)</li> <li>Ability to work effectively and competently with people at all levels in the organization; is a great team member</li> <li>Ability to work without supervision; effective time management and strong organizational skills</li> <li>Contribute on an on-going basis toward maintaining a safe working environment both for yourself and for those working with you or in your close vicinity</li> <li>Good computer skills with knowledge of relevant software tools, in particular Word, Excel and Synchro, and an ability to apply new tools</li> <li>Ability to work to deadlines and see tasks through to completion</li> <li>Excellent written and verbal communication skills</li> <li>Good analytical skills and attention to detail</li> </ul> <div> </div> <div>Preferred Qualifications:</div> <ul> <li>Knowledge and experience with any of the following software is a plus: HCS, SimTraffic, VISSIM, or Microstation</li> <li>Local candidates preferred; no relocation or housing assistance associated with this internship</li> </ul> <div> </div> <div>About WSP USA</div> <div>WSP USA is the U.S. operating company of one of the world's leading engineering and professional services firms.
