We are seeking a Transit Planner to make a significant contribution to WSP USA’s strategic plan to increase our project management and business development capability. The Transit Planner will conduct public transportation planning studies and analysis, in the Southeast United States, and be based out of the Charlotte, North Carolina office. Responsibilities will involve conducting a wide range of transit planning efforts including Alternatives Analyses, short-range service plans, long-range vision plans, FTA program administration, FTA compliance oversight, and feasibility studies for commuter rail, streetcar, light rail, and bus operations.
 
Responsibilities
  • Conducts or assists with a range of transportation planning studies, including needs assessments, transit modal analyses, traffic studies, NEPA documents, and long-range planning
  • Develops mapping and graphical material
  • Conducts multimodal planning efforts
  • Prepares and gives briefings and makes presentations to clients, the general public, and other stakeholders
  • Prepares and reviews written technical reports
  • Assigns tasks to and coordinates with junior and entry-level staff and other sub consultants
  • Assists in determining schedule and budget requirements and in monitoring project progress
  • Bachelor’s degree in planning or related field and a minimum of three years progressively responsible experience in planning or research-related activities (or equivalent working knowledge/experience).

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Planning or related discipline
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience
  • Experience in transit planning projects such as Alternatives Analyses, Transit Corridor Studies, Public Transit route analysis, transit bus stop analysis, and ITS
  • Experience working with Southeastern transit agencies and cities, especially North Carolina based cities and transit agencies preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; demonstrated teamwork skills
  • Increasing responsibility for interacting with clients, public officials, and the general public
  • Well-versed in MS Office Suite
  • Well-versed in ArcGIS
  • Active in professional service organizations
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with transit agencies and understanding Federal Transit Administration regulations and policies
  • Well-versed in Adobe Illustrator and ArcGIS
