WSP is currently initiating a search for a Transit & Rail Manager – Mid-Atlantic with a focus on our offices in the Washington, D.C., Maryland and Pennsylvania areas.
 
Position Description
 
WSP has an immediate opening for a Regional Manager for the Transit & Rail Technical Excellence Center (TEC). This position is to lead, expand and drive growth for the practice in the Mid-Atlantic region. The right candidate will be a highly experienced and dynamic seller-doer leader in the transit & rail market that includes operational planning, safety & security, systems engineering, rail vehicles, railroads, fleet and facilities and transportation demand management. Additionally, they must have proven experience growing and maintaining a successful business operation. 
 
Driving the growth of our business requires the ability to both pursue new work and deliver well.  The role requires the candidate to have a proven track record in leading and winning major pursuits.  The role requires the participation in and the development of winning pursuit & bid strategies in addition to ensuring the right technical talent is assigned to pursuits & bids.  The successful candidate will also monitor that production work is delivered within scope, schedule and budget. Additionally, this position requires assigning appropriate staff to projects, and will drive innovation to both maximize project margins and deliver value to our clients.  
 
The ideal candidate will provide continuous focus and emphasis on delivering innovation and quality. This position also requires exceptional client relationship skills, to ensure that we are continually understanding and delivering on our clients’ needs.  This includes a focus both on internal WSP geographic area offices as well as external client agencies.
 
The hiring, development and retention of staff is a central aspect of the role.  The candidate will be responsible for hiring staff with specialist transit & rail capabilities.   
 
WSP is looking for a self-starter, who can set strategies and achieve results. The position requires this person to work in concert with other managers in other offices, regions, markets, and business support units to achieve the firm’s overall financial and market success. 

Requirements

Specific responsibilities for this position include:
  • Drive the growth of transit & rail business
  • Utilize existing client relationships within the transit & rail market to develop strategies to position WSP for major transit rail opportunities
  • Collaborate with other business units and geographic managers
  • Establish long-range plans, objectives, and implementation plans
  • Identify clients and establish client-focused programs
  • Lead and/or participate in key pursuit activities and contract negotiations
  • Lead and/or participate in major projects
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams internal and external to WSP
  • Maintain an active role in professional societies and organizations
  • Maximize WSP industry visibility
  • Excellent communication skills (presenting and writing)
  • Organized, self-starter with a strong entrepreneurial spirit
 
Experience Required
  • 15+ years of transportation consulting/engineering experience
  • Strongly established transit client relationships and industry contacts
  • Expertise with transit & rail systems and delivery of transit & rail projects
 
Education Required
  • Bachelor in engineering, business or related field (Masters is a plus)
  • Ability to immediately work in this country is required
