WSP is currently initiating a search for a Transit Vehicles Technical Specialist for our Los Angeles office.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
 
Position primarily involves performing analyses of electrical and hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles and associated power distribution systems (primarily buses and other heavy-duty vehicles).   Candidate’s responsibilities to include:
  • Develop zero-emission technical analyses, design criteria documents, design directive drawings, electrical standard design drawings, vehicle systems basis of design documents, vehicle system performance calculations, vehicle specifications and performance based specifications for zero-emission vehicles. Responsibilities also include coordination with a variety of design, planning, architectural and other related disciplines.
  • Prepare charging and hydrogen fueling equipment technical analyses, reports and design documents for such equipment.
  • Knowledge of national, state and local building codes and standards strongly preferred, including:  APTA/FTA Stadard Bus Procurement Guidelines, NFPA-70 (NEC) National Electrical Code, NFPA 101 Life/Safety Code, NFPA-130 Transit Rail Systems Code, NEMA Equipment Manufacturing Standards, ANSI Equipment Standards.
  • Help develop rough order of magnitude (ROM) vehicle capital and operating cost estimates.
  • Provide support during procurement and construction activities.
  • Perform site surveys for system data gathering for utility service interface design and existing power and control system interface design.
  • Attend meetings with clients, city and state agencies, utility service representatives and project teams.
  • Candidate will be proficient in document management and will also possess strong project management and communications skills that will encompass project presentations and client presentations.  Effective multi-discipline staff communications abilities with all levels are also essential.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in engineering (electrical engineering strongly preferred), urban planning, environmental studies, or geography
  • 3 plus years experience with battery electric buses
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Strong technical writing and data analysis skills
  • Detail-oriented with an emphasis on quality work products
  • The selected candidate must have the ability to work in the US, immediately
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS and Google Earth
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite
