JOB SUMMARY:
Underground Storm Drain Foreman will provide on-site supervision and oversee all phases directly related to the installation of underground stormwater drainage systems. Duties assigned under this position include earthwork excavations and trenching, installation storm drain piping and precast structures, construction of cast-in-place structures, as well as, backfill and compaction. The Underground Storm Drain Foreman will coordinate with the General Superintendent, Quality Control Manager, Safety Officers, and Environmental Representatives, along with Subcontractors and Vendors; to ensure that work is being performed in a safe and timely manner in-accordance with all contract and requirements and scheduled timeframes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Underground Storm Drain Foreman is responsibilities covering jobsite safety, project documentation, scheduling, and successful project completion. Following is a list of primary tasks of the expected for this position. Job Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Supervises field labor in piping disciplines. Responsible for safety, quality, productivity, and schedule adherence.
- Assist with tracking inventory of supplies and materials to guard against loss and to ensure that vital materials are ordered and delivered to meet schedule.
- Ensures effective liaison between project management and field personnel.
- Interfaces effectively with project management to ensure smooth workflow and schedule adherence.
- Resolves employee conflicts and grievances, informing project and corporate management as appropriate.
- Assists in planning work schedule, determining field labor levels and tools/equipment requirements.
- Ensure that project rules, procedures and programs are followed consistently, including those involving quality control, safety and environmental compliance, as wells, tracking labor and equipment hours, and workplace behavior standards.
- Leads with positive attitude toward policies pertaining to safety, and regularly works to foster a safe work environment.
- Review, understand, and implement construction project documents such as contracts, plans, specifications, drawings, job layout, as-builts and quantity books; in a sufficient manner to perform the responsibilities of this position.
- Assist in the determination of manpower and equipment needs, project scheduling, personnel hiring, equipment maintenance, tool and material requirements and managing subcontractors.
- Assists with timecards and record keeping – timely and accurately maintains and completes quantity records and timecards.
- Perform other tasks assigned by the General Superintendent or other Operations Management as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Five years of experience in a Forman roll preferred. Must have direct experience and knowledge of earthwork and installation of underground stormwater drainage systems.
- Must be able to read drawings, construction contracts, subcontracts, and other construction documents, plans and specifications.
ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of industry standard means and methods, materials, and equipment.
- Skill and knowledge in operating equipment such as dozers, excavators, front end loaders, motor graders, backhoes, etc. commonly used in earthwork.
- Ability to participate in and supervise workers operating light, heavy, and special motorized equipment.
- Experienced in making minor repairs and adjustments to equipment operated.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and specifications.
- Lead with a Safety-First Mindset.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally with supervisor and crew.
- Ability to become familiar with the project management software used by the company.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- While performing the essential functions of this job, this position requires the ability to stand, walk, use hands, and handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, lift above their head, and talk or hear.
- Able to to kneel, crouch or stoop, climb ladders, bend at the waist, squat, and crawl in tight or confined spaces to perform the essential functions.
- This position will require the ability to lift, manually move or push in excess of 75 pounds.
- Ascending and descending ladders or stairs is required, and movement on uneven terrain is frequently required to carry out essential duties.
- Ability to work in several diverse locations is pertinent, as work locations may change daily.
- Expected work hours will vary by job, location, and season. Working a night shift may be required from time to time.
- May be required to travel and/or live-in remote construction project locations as required for whatever periods of time as are necessary to complete such projects.
