The Construction Superintendent (CS) is responsible for the safe completion of the project within budget, on schedule, to the company's quality standards, and to the customer's satisfaction. Responsibilities are typically safety compliance, craft supervision and production, subcontractor coordination, scheduling, material handling, daily reports, quality control, and craft training. The CS's duties will vary as required to support the project team.
Position qualifications include 3 to 7 years of electrical/low voltage systems experience, experience managing or overseeing installation of low voltage building systems, including communications systems, outside/inside plant cabling, and structured cabling systems. Required experience includes OSP/ISP in data center environments, microduct pathway tugging installation, fiber optics installation, pulling, tugging, and jetting, project scheduling proficiency in Oracle Primavera, OSHA 30 training certificate, and confined space training certificate.
Preferred qualifications include a bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or business, and professional accreditations or certifications, i.e., DBIA, LEED, BICISI Certified Cable Installer, RCDD Registered Designer, PMP.
The following is a list of the primary tasks of the Superintendent, some of which may be delegated to jobsite personnel, but which require their close supervision: safety, quality, job planning, scheduling, mobilization, coordination and supervision of all company work forces, personnel evaluation, development, and retention, coordination and scheduling of all subcontractors, development of forms detailing and special construction methods for job efficiency, maintenance of accurate timekeeping and cost records, study of labor recaps and cost controls, expediting vendors and subcontractors, material receiving, equipment needs, owner relations, and maintenance of project logs.
Physical work classification and demands include heavy work, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The individual in this position will periodically walk, kneel, sit, crouch, reach, stoop, read/see, speak, push, pull, lift, stand, and finger/type. The frequency of each action varies by workflow and field activity. Walking - The person in this position needs to frequently move about the jobsite. Sometimes operates a computer or tablet and other office machinery, such as a calculator and phone. The person in this position frequently communicates with employees and external stakeholders regarding a variety of topics related to office and field administration. Constantly reads written communications and views mail submissions. Will also need to read blueprints and take/verify field measurements. Climbing Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding and ramps at various heights. Balancing Ability to maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling and to walk, stand or crouch. Stooping Bending the body downward and forward by the spine at the waist. Reaching Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction for various lengths of time. Grasping Needs to apply pressure to an object with fingers and palm regularly. Visual acuity and ability to operate a vehicle as certified and appropriate. Occasionally exposed to high and low temperatures. Frequently exposed to noisy environment and outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind.
