VDOT's Salem District is looking to fill the position of Sign Crew Leader for the Bedford Residency maintaining Bedford and Franklin Counties. Position currently sits at the Rocky Mount, VA location. This selected candidate will plan, schedule, oversee, and perform the installation, maintenance, repair, and removal of roadway signs and traffic control devices for an assigned geographical area to include program, budget and inventory oversight. Perform and oversee a combination of skilled equipment operations, preventive maintenance, and manual labor tasks in roadway maintenance.

VDOT is an emergency response agency, and this position is the core of this requirement, therefore you will work outside of normal business hours during emergency operations.


Minimum Qualifications


• Ability to compile data, prepare reports and maintain records.
• Experience in work zone set-up, traffic controls and flagging to include using the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) or similar regulations.
• Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to oversee the work of others.
• Skill in the use of computers and software applications.
• Skill in the operation and maintenance of light, medium, heavy duty equipment used in routine and emergency maintenance operations.
• Ability to obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months of employment and maintain thereafter. Must comply with DOT and VDOT policies and standards when operating CDL equipment.
• Safety shoes required.
• Experience in sign installation, maintenance and repair.


Additional Considerations


• Experience managing inventory.
• Experience in emergency operations, e.g. snow, ice, storms, accidents, etc.
• Experience in roadway sign installation, maintenance and repair.

Position is designated as essential to emergency operations and will be required to work outside normal work hours to ensure the safety of the traveling public.
