D.R. Horton, Inc. is currently looking for a Jr. Estimator. The right candidate will analyze blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, material, and labor estimates for products, projects, or services.  Ensure correct materials are delivered to meet company standards.


 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.



  • Perform on-site inspections of material drops and material usage as directed by the Sr. Estimator

  • Check jobsites for materials that can be returned for credit.  Request Superintendent email material count to be returned and evaluate

  • Audit jobsites to confirm material takeoffs are correct and communicate any adjustments that may be necessary to the Sr. Estimator and/or Purchasing Manager

  • Perform quantity take-offs to prepare detailed estimates in accordance with drawings and specifications

  • Review Invitation to Bid (ITB) for a qualification of scope

  • Maintain computer databases (pricing, estimates, items, etc.)

  • Process all over-budget purchase orders

  • Perform field audits to check slab prep measurements before the concrete is poured as needed

  • Assist with maintaining take-offs, item cost, and contract pricing

  • Assist in cost negotiations under the direction of the Sr. Estimator and/or Purchasing Manager

  • Conducts all business in a professional and ethical manner to serve customers and increase the goodwill and profit of the company

  • Ability to work overtime

 

Qualifications

 

Education and/or Experience



  • Associate degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school

  • Zero to two years of related experience and/or training in the residential construction industry

  • Must have a vehicle and a valid driver’s license

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral form or via DRH applications

  • Proficiency with MS Office and email

  • Ability to sit for majority of 8-hour workday; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and peripheral vision

  • The noise level is generally moderate


 


Preferred Qualifications



  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university preferred

  • Knowledge of estimating software such as Blue Beam

  • Effective communication skills

  • The ability to meet multiple deadlines and attention to detail
