Job Duties

We are looking for professionals with business management experience to drive the business operations of the Virginia Department of Transportation.

VDOT’s Richmond District- Petersburg Residency has an exciting opportunity for a Residency Administrator Assistant to assist the Residency Administrator to ensure the coordination, integration and management of VDOT resources that impact the Residency programs. At the Residency Administrator’s discretion, may serve as the focal point for services and primary contact or liaison for local governments on activities that impact the local geographic region. Manage resources allocated to the program to accomplish the objective.

This position will be responsible for program direction, planning, monitoring and evaluation, fiscal stewardship and human resource management of staff. Communicates organizational mission, values and goals. Keeps employees and other managers informed. Develops and establishes review and control systems to assist in achieving goals and results. The business (RBA) and Maintenace (MOM) will report to this position.

This position is designated as essential to emergency operations and may be required to work outside of normal work hours, on weekends and holidays during emergency situations which may include but are not limited to inclement weather, disaster response and emergency operations to ensure the safety of the traveling public.

Minimum Qualifications

• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with internal and external stakeholders at all levels
• Valid driver’s license
• Skill in the use of computers and software applications
• Considerable knowledge of roadway construction and maintenance operations, equipment, materials and techniques.
• Considerable knowledge of federal and state rules, regulations, and policies as they related to transportation.
• Skill in maintaining effective relationships and building teams.

Additional Considerations

• A combination of training, experience, or education in Civil Engineering or related field desired.
• Professional Engineer license (PE) or Engineer in Training
• Experience leading and supervising others
• Experience in the management of transportation programs and project of varying complexity.
• Experience in budget development and administration using automated financial software systems.
